In racing, a “purple sector” refers to the fastest time on a section of the track. The event aims to encourage young people with epilepsy to set their own “purple sectors” by pursuing personal goals.
Funds raised will support Young Epilepsy’s work with children and young people with epilepsy and their families.
Purple Sectors creator Chris McCarthy, who was diagnosed with epilepsy as a teenager, turned his dream of being a racer into a career as a motorsport broadcaster. Jennie Gow is known for her work as BBC Radio 5 Live’s Formula 1 presenter and MotoGP reporter, while Neil Cole has presented across UK motorsport, including the FIA World Rallycross Championship.
The 15 teams taking part in the exhilarating and fast paced virtual races will be led by industry experts. Examples include drivers such as Jak Crawford, broadcasters and commentators such as Sky Sports’ Crofty, and content creators like Pit Stop Nic…. we’ve even got a Michelin starred chef Tom Kerridge!
Purple Sectors combines competitive racing with audience participation to raise awareness and funds for Young Epilepsy. The event will be accessible online, and donations made during the stream will go directly to supporting children and young people living with epilepsy.
This year’s prizes range from yacht hospitality at the Monaco Grand Prix right the way through to signed motorsport memorabilia, the latest gaming headphones…even a glamping get-away!
