Last Christmas, you gave hope to children and young people newly diagnosed with epilepsy, and their families, at a time when they needed it most. Thanks to your generosity, we’ve begun an exciting project that will make sure no child faces an epilepsy diagnosis alone.
Your gift in action
Over £60,000 was raised through the Big Give Christmas Challenge. Every pound is going towards developing a lifeline for families who are suddenly navigating the shock and uncertainty of a new epilepsy diagnosis.
Here’s how your donations are making a difference:
Creating trusted information and support
Thanks to your support we’re developing a package of resources and support for children, young people, and their families at the point of diagnosis.
We are co-creating age-appropriate information and practical tools with children, young people and families, shaped by their lived experiences.
- The crucial first step is exploring what kind of information would be most helpful, and at which stages, so that everyone can get the answers they need, when they need them.
- We are consulting with healthcare professionals to discover how we can ensure easy access to trusted resources, so epilepsy nurses and doctors can confidently recommend Young Epilepsy from the outset.
Right now, we’re researching and working in partnership with the community to understand what information and support is needed. By listening, researching, and co-creating, we are shaping a new support offer that truly meets the needs of those facing an epilepsy diagnosis.
Reaching more families, sooner
Every year, around 8,500 children and young people are diagnosed with epilepsy in the UK. Many families tell us, “I wish I’d known about Young Epilepsy sooner.” Your support is helping us close that gap, raising awareness in clinics, building relationships with NHS teams, and making sure our resources are accessible to everyone, including those without digital access.
Measuring our impact
We’re committed to transparency and learning. We plan to track how many families access our resources and sign up for support. We will listen carefully to feedback from families and clinics, using these insights to improve what we offer.
Thank you for making this possible
Your kindness is changing lives. Because of you, families facing epilepsy are finding hope, support, and a community that understands. As we launch this year’s Christmas appeal, we’re asking for your help again, so we can reach even more children and young people, right when they need us most.
Together, we can make sure no one faces epilepsy alone.
