From the heartache of 20 seizures a day to the triumph of taking those first steps. Bodhi's journey is a reminder that with support, anything is possible.

A young boy who experiences up to 20 seizures a day is the face of Purple Day 2024 for Young Epilepsy.
Without finding Young Epilepsy I think I would have been a bit lost. They’ve been an amazing support for myself as a new mum going through my child’s diagnosis and journey with epilepsy.

Bodhi’s story

Little Bodhi is 14-months old and together with his family he has already been through a lot in his life.

At just eight weeks old Bodhi was having up to 20 seizures a day. After nearly a week in hospital and multiple tests, he was diagnosed with epilepsy. Mum, Taya, describes this as “the most stressful experience of her life”.

Now, at 14 months old, Bodhi's seizures have significantly reduced with the aid of medication. Still Bodhi faces occasional seizures every few weeks

Since Bodhi’s diagnosis a year ago, he’s come on leaps. It’s not been an easy road with having a developmental delay, some other issues which came up, and of course, the constant seizures.

With additional diagnoses of severe hypermobility and hypotonia, Bodhi is still a very determined toddler and continues to defy expectations. Taya joyfully shared: "Bodhi being Bodhi decided to shock everyone and was walking just after his first birthday which is amazing!"

We’re still on our journey of finding out his full diagnosis’ and what our future looks like, but the progress has been amazing. It’s a horrible, but also amazing journey.

Being told to expect things and Bodhi succeeding them before we expected. Without finding Young Epilepsy I think I would have been a bit lost. They’ve been an amazing support for myself as a new mum going through my child’s diagnosis and journey with epilepsy.
