Young Epilepsy's annual review looks at the range of work we have carried out over the course of the year. It explains how donations, contracts and fundraising activities have helped pay for our services.
Our Services
- We provide specialist education and residential care through St Piers School and College for students aged 5-25.
- Our Neville Childhood Epilepsy Centre offers diagnostic, treatment, and other services for epilepsy and related neurological conditions.
- Nationally, we support over 112,000 young people with epilepsy through information services, training programs, and awareness campaigns.
Achievements in Education and Care
- St Piers School increased student numbers to 78 by July 2015, with all students meeting or exceeding academic targets.
- At Key Stages 4 and 5, all students achieved external accreditation, showcasing their academic success.
- St Piers College maintained student numbers at 121, with 47 learners earning 63 accredited qualifications.
- 90 college students completed work experience with 18 external employers, highlighting our focus on practical learning.
- We completed major projects, including a new Therapy and Lifeskills Centre, outdoor learning spaces, and a wetlands area for nature studies.
Health and Assessment Services
- We conducted 15 diagnostic assessments and 51 telemetry assessments, primarily for Great Ormond Street Hospital.
- Our rehabilitation services supported seven individuals, with three transitioning to long-term placements.
Other Key Achievements
- Celebrated the 10-year anniversary of The Prince of Wales’s Chair of Childhood Epilepsy, led by Professor Helen Cross, who received an OBE.
- Launched a transitions outreach program to support teenagers with epilepsy in education, work experience, and emotional growth.
- Expanded our University project, engaging with 163 higher education institutions to make them epilepsy-friendly.
- Delivered training programs to nearly 1,000 professionals and reached over 20,000 pupils through school initiatives.
Future Plans
- Opening a new Education Resource Centre with sensory spaces, advanced technology, and research facilities.
- Advocating for better healthcare plans for children with epilepsy through collaboration with policymakers.
