Children write to Prime Minister on siblings' access to cannabis-based seizure treatments

Thomas and other children across the country are showing great courage and care in speaking up for their siblings, sharing the challenges faced by many children with complex epilepsy and their families.

Too many children and families are facing barriers in the NHS prescribing system that need to be addressed. Upcoming research should give further confidence in the prescribing of cannabis-based medicines. However, the Government should work with the NHS and pharmaceutical companies to explore improved interim solutions.

No parent should have to pay for their child’s prescribed epilepsy treatment if an NHS epilepsy specialist clinician believes it to be in the child’s best interests.
