MyEpilepsyMind

The MyEpilepsyMind self-help course equips young people with epilepsy with practical ways to improve their mental health and wellbeing.

Let's go!

MyEpilepsyMind is a digital self‑help tool from Young Epilepsy. It enables young people with epilepsy take care of their mental health before things start to feel too hard.

This easy-to-use self-help course teaches you practical skills for handling negative thoughts and feelings. If you are starting to feel overwhelmed, lonely, anxious or just a bit down, you'll learn tools for managing those emotions.

Note that MyEpilepsyMind is not therapy and does not replace professional support.

For a long time, I worried that my epilepsy made life harder for the people around me. This helped me realise that I'm not a burden.

Who is MyEpilepsyMind for?

MyEpilepsyMind was created by Young Epilepsy for young people with epilepsy aged 12 and up. Young people with epilepsy are at higher risk of mental health conditions and MyEpilepsyMind provides skills to keep you on top of your wellbeing.

MyEpilepsyMind can help you take control of your thoughts before they overwhelm you and approach the challenges of school, relationships and growing up healthily.

MyEpilepsyMind is not for you if:

  • You have serious concerns about your mental health
  • You are currently under treatment for your mental health
  • You are diagnosed with a mental health condition and need one-to-one support.

If you feel unsafe or need urgent help, contact your doctor. If you are feeling overwhelmed, you can also text ‘PURPLE’ to 85258 for 24/7 text support from the Shout support service.

Making the most of MyEpilepsyMind

To get the most out of MyEpilepsyMind and learn the best tools for your mental health, you should:

MyEpilepsyMind works best when you can focus without too many distractions. Try to find a place where you feel relaxed and comfortable, whether that's at home, in a private room, or somewhere you feel safe. Setting aside dedicated time can help you get the most from each module.

Throughout the course, you may come across ideas, reflections, or exercises that you'd like to revisit later. Having a notebook nearby can help you capture anything that feels important, meaningful, or useful as you work through the content.

These notes are for you, so write as much or as little as feels right.

Some modules encourage you to slow down and take a mindful approach to everyday activities. Having a small snack and a drink available can help you fully take part in these exercises without needing to leave the course part way through.

Some of the course content may feel personal or sensitive. Using headphones can help you feel more comfortable and give you greater privacy, especially if you're in a shared space or around other people.

When life feels busy or overwhelming, it's easy to put your own wellbeing last. Taking time to focus on your mental health can help you understand your thoughts and feelings, build coping strategies, and develop healthier habits.

The skills you'll learn through MyEpilepsyMind are designed to support your wellbeing now and help you look after your mental health in the future. Remember, you can take the course at your own pace. If you feel overwhelmed at any point, take a break and return when you feel ready.
