Zac's diagnosis
Zac had his first seizure, just aged 2. His parents describe their journey from then, until his diagnosis and beyond.
At just 14 years old, Zac has already raised over £100,000 for Young Epilepsy. Now, he’s taking on his biggest challenge yet and inspiring other young people to join in.
Zac is setting off from his home in Surrey and heading all the way to Manchester United’s Old Trafford on foot before jumping on a bike to ride all the way back home.
That’s a round trip of around 500 miles.
Learning to ride a bike has been the first step of the challenge as Zac has only recently got to grips with two wheels just a few months before he rides the length of the country.
Zac lives with epilepsy. He knows first-hand the challenges it can bring, from seizures to setbacks that make everyday life harder.
But his goal is bigger than the miles ahead of him.
“I really want other children with epilepsy to know that they’re not alone, and their epilepsy doesn’t need to stop them achieving what they want to.”
This isn’t the first big fundraising challenge Zac has taken on. In 2024, he ran over 830 miles for Young Epilepsy, finishing with a marathon on New Year’s Eve.

Zac’s story is a powerful reminder that epilepsy doesn’t have to hold you back. From wild swims to mountain runs, he tackled every challenge of his school’s Adventure Race with courage, teamwork, and a whole lot of heart.
Fundraising superstar, Zac, is surprised by BBC's The One Show with an extra special One Big Thank You.
While Zac is leading the way, this isn’t a solo journey.
Across the UK, members of Young Epilepsy’s Youth Voice Network are stepping up too, setting their own “Great Big Challenges”.
Students at St Piers, our specialist school and college in Surrey that supports children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities, are also taking on their own shared challenge, working together to reach a collective 500 miles in support of Zac.
From distance and fitness goals to fundraising targets, they’re showing that epilepsy does not define what young people can achieve.
Together, they are creating a nationwide movement of support, awareness and action.
Fundraising from this challenge will support Young Epilepsy and St Piers and thousands of children and young people across the UK who are living with epilepsy.
Zac’s challenge will be supported with updates along the way, including:
