Young Epilepsy achieves Hear by Right flagship status

We are delighted to announce we have been awarded the prestigious accolade of flagship status by the National Youth Agency (NYA) Hear by Right accreditation scheme. The award comes after our consistent commitment to put young people at the forefront of everything we do.

Hear by Right was established over 10 years ago and was created with and for young people to support organisations within the youth sector to transform young people’s lives by developing their voice, influence, and place within society.

The award recognises best practice, supporting organisations to plan, develop and evaluate their participation practices and provision. Inspired by Article 12 from The UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, the scheme fosters a culture of development; a continual journey for keeping young people at the heart of decision making.

“Every young person has the right to express their views, feelings and wishes in all matters affecting them and to have their views considered and taken seriously.” Article 12, The UN Convention on the Rights of the Child

We are very proud of the outstanding feedback from NYA recognising the significance of youth participation in our training, delivery, work ethic and values.

In light of our commitment to youth participation, we launched the Youth Voice Network, a community of 13-25-year-olds with epilepsy from across the UK. By collaborating with organisations like the NHS, the network enables young people with epilepsy to share experiences and make significant decisions to enhance the lives of all young people living with the condition.  Our Youth Voice Network members are offered opportunities to connect with peers with similar lived experience, and also develop new skills by contributing articles, videos, and podcasts, attending events and taking an active role to help improve healthcare and educational services.

“Being part of the Youth Voice Network and the Hear by Right process means a lot to me as I’m able to help change the system for other young people! It makes me feel more positive about my struggles with epilepsy.”
Ellie, Young Epilepsy Youth Voice Network member

Young Epilepsy’s Youth Engagement and Participation Lead, Cameron Davies said “We are thrilled to achieve the NYA Hear by Right Flagship accreditation. This accomplishment highlights the remarkable work of the Youth Voice Network from across the UK. These dedicated young people play a pivotal role in shaping significant decisions for Young Epilepsy, as well as in influencing external organizations to improve support for young individuals with epilepsy across the nation.
