Olympic champion Chris Mears shares golden advice
In our Olympic Series article last week we revealed GB diver, Chris Mears, had experienced a seven-hour non-epileptic seizure after a significant injury that left him fighting for his life.
Since the story went live, we have been flooded with comments from our supporters across Social Media, branding Chris an ‘inspiration’ and ‘role model’ to young aspiring athletes who also experience seizures.
Following this we decided to get in contact with the Olympic gold medallist himself, who sent this touching message to share with our supporters:
Having a seizure was a terrifying experience and those who live with epilepsy are incredibly brave for facing this misunderstood condition on a day-to-day basis.
I would always encourage children and young people to get involved with sport and never let their seizures define them; you can achieve your dreams.
Thank you to all of Young Epilepsy’s followers for supporting me on my journey, you’re all incredible!
