Super Six gearing up for WingWalk
The #ComeFlyWithYE team, Vicki, Emily, Jane, Monika and Rebecca will be taking on a WingWalk this Sunday to raise funds for Young Epilepsy.
The brave women will be strapped to the wing of a biplane as it takes flight at the Damyns Hall aerodrome in Essex. The team’s fundraising target is £5,000 and they need your help to keep the donations flying in.
Director of Fundraising and External Relations, Vicki Kennedy
Vicki Kennedy joined Young Epilepsy in April as Director of Fundraising and External Relations. Her first bold move was to take on a fundraising challenge to make a contribution to the charity, this is when #ComeFlyWithYE took flight and Vicki asked supporters to join her in reaching for the skies to raise funds for children and young people with epilepsy.
Emily Donoghue was diagnosed with epilepsy at the age of 10 after experiencing absence seizures, which later developed into more complex epilepsy. Through writing about her experience with epilepsy, Emily found a way to raise awareness of the condition and inspire others. Emily, who is Young Epilepsy’s Inspirational Shining Star winner, embraces the challenges she faces in life and believes her epilepsy has made her a stronger person.
Monika Skrzypczak is a Residential House Manager at Young Epilepsy’s campus in Surrey and cares for children and young people with complex epilepsy and associated neurological conditions. Monika isn’t afraid of adrenaline, in 2015 she took part in a skydive to raise money for Young Epilepsy and loved it so much that this year she wanted to challenge just as exciting. Working so closely with inspirational young people has motivated Monika to give something back to them and the charity.
Jane Moss is also taking part in the WingWalk! Jane works at The Neville Childhood Epilepsy Centre as a Health Care Assistant and has gained experience working at the company for the last 12 ½ years, previously as an Assistant House Manager. In 2014 Jane completed an exhilarating 15,000-foot parachute jump and this year decided to sign-up for her most exciting challenge yet, the WingWalk. Her determination to see it through comes from the amazing young people she has worked with for so long at Young Epilepsy.
Rebecca Turnbull is a dedicated supporter for Young Epilepsy. She set up a fundraising group in Horsham in 2014 and has raised around 10k by running events in her community, who were recently shortlisted for a Champions Awards. She is a regular supporter and already has a busy fundraising schedule booked in for the rest of the year including quiz nights, bag packing, a car wash and a Christmas pamper night. Rebecca took part in a skydive in 2014 to raise money and ‘absolutely hated it’ but because she was so scared people sponsored her more - this is why she knew she had to do a WingWalk! She fully expects to hate every second!! Rebecca broke her arm 2 weeks ago so will be doing the challenge with her arm in plaster!
Sarah is the newest recruit to the #ComeFlyWithYE team after boldly accepting the challenge just three days prior to take off. Sarah is a presenter for Meridian FM, the local radio station for Young Epilepsy’s campus in Surrey. Sarah has witnessed first hand the effect epilepsy has had on loved ones and was so inspired by the women already taking part she decided to join the team in their aerial adventure.
