Rich was nine years old when he was first diagnosed with nocturnal seizures. His family were shocked and felt guilty for not picking up the indicators sooner – particularly as his mother has partial and complex epilepsy.
On Sunday, Professor Helen Cross OBE, The Prince of Wales’s Chair of Childhood Epilepsy, was presented with the prestigious Sidney Carter Award in Child Neurology by the American Academy of Neurology (AAN) during the 69th AAN Annual Meeting.

An investigation by the Health Conditions in Schools Alliance has shown that nine out of ten schools are not complying with the law on support for children with medical conditions such as epilepsy. Since 2014, state schools in England have been required to have a policy in place to make sure children who have healthcare needs are safe, included and achieve their potential.
