Join us in helping others like Matthew to thrive
Matthew had his first seizure at 12. This, and daily trips to hospital during his teenage years led to depression, affecting his academic performance.
Later, he started pursuing his dream of becoming a dental hygienist. However, during his laboratory internship, Matthew had a seizure on-site and because of his colleagues’ reactions, he chose to leave.
With his dreams shattered, Matthew was referred to Young Epilepsy’s Transition Support Service who helped him consider a range of opportunities, increased his confidence and gave him the tools to take control of his life. Young Epilepsy arranged for him to speak in front of 80 professionals about his inspiring and emotional experiences with the condition.
This talk gave Matthew a confidence boost. Now 22, and undertaking a hospital apprenticeship, his determination wasn’t left unnoticed and he is looking forward to a brighter future thanks to Young Epilepsy.
