Speech and language therapy

Speech and language therapists find out how effective a young person’s communication skills are, not just their speech or language skills.

This means looking at all their ways of interacting, including body language as well as their ability to understand what other people tell them.

Therapists assess what impact any epilepsy is having and if communication difficulties are affecting their behaviour. They also support young people with oral difficulties that affect their eating and drinking.

Parents are given reports of progress as well as recommendations on a young person’s development. Our therapy teams work together to ensure young people receive a holistic service, tailored to their individual needs.
