Rehabilitation | Health services at Young Epilepsy | For professionals

The rehabilitation service provides holistic, intensive support for children and young people who have sustained a brain injury (either through accident or illness); have undergone neurosurgery or who need help to regain or improve skills.

Our multi-disciplinary team work towards bringing back lost skills, encouraging alternative skills and preventing problems that may develop during recovery.

Helping both the young person and the family through these changed circumstances is central to their recovery. We focus on making sure both the child and the family are greatly supported through the process, to ensure that the child can comfortably re-integrate into their everyday life, family and community.

A tailored plan is created for each child that includes the aims and goals of rehabilitation which are discussed and updated weekly. Families are regularly updated with progress throughout the rehabilitation period.

Blake's story

Anita is the mother of eight-year-old Blake, who recently benefitted from our rehabilitation unit in the Neville Childhood Epilepsy Centre. She described how she could now be a ‘mum again’ after her son, who had challenging behaviour, completed the 12 week programme.

Watch the video below to see their story.
