Teaching
Helping young people reach their potential
The school delivers a comprehensive programme based on the National Curriculum, modified as necessary, to ensure the needs of every student are met. Personal development is a focus, with students learning to attend lessons, manage their medication independently and improve their communication and social skills.
Making progress
Class groups of between six and eight students with similar learning requirements are led by a teacher who is helped by learning support assistants. Support workers provide additional help to each individual student on a one-to-one or two-to-one basis both at school and in the residential houses. Over two thirds of students reach their targets each year with a further 25% making significant progress.
The curriculum
The curriculum promotes the cognitive, spiritual, moral, emotional and physical development of students, helping to prepare them for adult life. Learning takes place throughout the day, both within the school and the residential or home environment, offering opportunities for students to achieve and be challenged. Each student has their own tailored Individual Education Programme which is reviewed every six weeks.

Creative arts
Our creative arts department provides an environment not unlike a professional theatre set to encourage exploration, imagination, independence and communication skills. Sessions are innovative and stimulating, and a means for students to develop through Intensive Interaction.
Students have experienced Victorian, Egyptian, North American Indian and Persian cultures. They have been pirates, hippies and knights of King Arthur. They have performed at the circus and joined wild animals in the jungle. Creative arts boldly goes where others fear to tread!
