Admissions
Making the right choice
It’s important that you make the right choice when looking for a Further Education college that supports and safeguards your young adults with learning difficulties. There are numerous aspects that will be considered; the curriculum, independence training, a safe environment for the young adults wellbeing, outstanding care and health services. St Piers College can offer all of these aspects and due to an expansion in the services Young Epilepsy offer the college has a minimal number of places available for the September 2012 admission. Potential new services
We are currently looking at the development of our services, particularly for young people over 19. Connect2 - New service for learners over 19 with complex epilepsy and learning disabilities
We offer a new residential service for learners aged 19 to 25 with complex epilepsy or other neurological condition and/or Severe to Profound and Multiple Learning Disabilities. The service is called Connect2, as we hope it will connect young people with their local community and provide a range of stimulating activities. It would be funded by social care and/or health budgets.

Admissions enquiries
The Admissions Office receives and manages all enquiries about admissions to the college. A prospectus is sent out with details of forthcoming College Open Days.
Upon receipt of a formal application from parents, supported by the student's Connexions Personal Adviser, the application is reviewed and, if appropriate a placement visit is arranged.
An outreach visit may also be arranged.
The placement visit usually takes place over 2 days and includes overnight stays for young people referred for residential placements. Following the visit, Young Epilepsy produces a written multi-disciplinary funding application showing the prospective student's needs with recommendations concerning the level of staff, and non-staff input, required to support the student's placement.
Wherever possible, the parents and student are advised of the panel's decision within two weeks following the placement visit. The decision is communicated in writing to the Referring Agency and the parents.
If placement is agreed, every effort is made to accommodate the student as promptly as possible.
