Finding out more

Making the right decisions about your child’s future

Decisions which will affect a child or young person’s entire future cannot be made lightly.

We provide informal visits which include a tour of the school, a student house and the Medical Centre. If we receive a formal application from the agency or individual responsible for funding the child we may arrange a placement visit.

Placement visits

The placement visit varies in length from two to four days and includes overnight stays for young people referred for residential placements. Following the visit, we will produce a written multi-disciplinary assessment of the prospective student's needs with recommendations on the level of staff, and non-staff input required.

Wherever possible, the parents and student are advised of the panel's decision on the day the placement visit ends. The decision is communicated in writing to the Referring Agency and the parents.

If placement is agreed, every effort is made to accommodate the student as promptly as possible.
