Champions Campaign e-newsletter - first edition

The national role out has begun!

Following the success of the Champions Pilot Project, we are now organising Champions training throughout the UK.

We trained a total of 67 people during March and April 2011. We ran courses in Epsom and Ewell; Hammersmith and Fulham; and Wandsworth.

We have lots more training days booked over the coming months!

If you would like to organise a Champions training day in your area, get in touch.

Well done the Beacon School!

Following recent Champions training, the Beacon School has sent us their new School Epilepsy Policy for us to endorse. Putting in place a School Epilepsy Policy is an important part of the School Epilepsy Champion's role, as it will help ensure that best practice is embedded and sustainable in your school.

Send us your policy and we will be delighted to review and endorse it for you.

Campaigning success on Childhood Epilepsy and the NHS!

For some time now we have been pressing the government to place a higher priority on improving health services for children and young people with epilepsy. We were therefore delighted to see the Department of Health's new Outcomes Framework because childhood epilepsy is mentioned in three separate ways and for the first time as an NHS indicator.

Epilepsy Education 4 Schools - a great success at Eastergate Primary School!

Last December we delivered some epilepsy awareness lessons for students at Eastergate Primary School. The lessons have made a huge difference to one pupil at the school, as described by her class teacher, I have seen a different child for the last couple of days - more confident, more outgoing and certainly much more upstanding in her physical posture and demeanour... we have tried hard to communicate with her about her epilepsy, but the session with you opened her up in a way I could not have envisaged.

Our lessons address many of the key objectives in the curriculum as children are empowered to develop responsibility and respect. Thanks to external donors, these lessons are free to schools in south east England and outer London boroughs.
