Young Epilepsy is grateful to The Rank Foundation, The Peter Harrison Foundation, The Linbury Trust, Sir Bryan and Lady Nicholson, The Gosling Foundation, The Hugh Fraser Foundation, The Freemasons Grand Charity and The Health Foundation for their generous support of our Champions Campaign work.

Elliot in physiotherapyAround 112,000 young people under 25 have epilepsy in the UK - half are estimated to be under-achieving in school.

Epilepsy in childhood is twice as common as insulin dependent diabetes.

On average there is one child with epilepsy in every primary school and five in every secondary school.

There is a misdiagnosis rate of up to 40%.

At least half the deaths from epilepsy amongst children and young people are potentially avoidable.

About a quarter of all those known to UK learning disability services have epilepsy.

70% of young people experiencing seizures could be seizure free, yet only 28% are.

Young Epilepsy is running a national campaign to improve the lives of children and young people in the UK with epilepsy.

The Champions Campaign builds on Young Epilepsy’s wealth of knowledge and expertise to promote better services and understanding for young people with epilepsy.

Young Epilepsy is already providing professional, high quality information to parents, families, carers and professionals across the UK.

Now the Champions Campaign is pressing for improvements to education, health and other services for the estimated 60,000 children and young people living with epilepsy right across the UK.

By working with all our partners, providing training, guidance and support; working directly with a range of organisations and service providers at all levels and lobbying those in charge to ensure the right policies are in place we know we can really make a difference.
